The town itself has recently been awarded the overall winners of the 2001 Irish Tidy Towns competition.
Croagh Patrick colloquially called 'The Reek' has been a place of pilgrimage for 1500 years. It is renowned for its Partrician Pilgrimage in honour of Irelands national apostle, Saint Patrick. Every year people travel from all over the world to climb to its summit, not only for religious purposes but also to view the splendour of "Clew Bay".

Westport Town itself has much to offer the visitor the only problem is where to begin! One of the most popular destinations is Westport Golf Course which is an 18 hole championship course considered to be one of the best in Ireland. Plus there is a golf driving range close by.
Westport also has a great selection of top class restaurants where dining out caters for all tastes and pockets.
The town is also renouned for its selection of pubs and bars where one can find live music, great atmosphere and bar food.
For those who like to shop many of the shops have kept their old world facade giving a unique atmosphere to shop in.
